How to Stay Cool and Hydrated in Washington State's Heat Wave 2022?

As the temperature gets higher in the Western part of the county and a possible rise in heat-related illnesses. Everyone's now encouraged to keep hydrated in this most intense heat wave. Here are some tips to stay cool and hydrated.

1. Drink Plenty of Water

Getting enough water every day is important for your health. Drinking water can prevent dehydration, a condition that can cause unclear thinking, result in mood change, cause your body to overheat, and lead to constipation and kidney stones.

Drinking enough fluids is one of the most important things you can do to prevent heat illness. Water is generally sufficient for hydration.

2. Watch News and Read Related Blogs

Watching local news for updates and following social media accounts of reliable

sources or agencies can help you along the way. You can get helpful tips and updates with heat-related warnings, and advisories to avoid getting heat-related illnesses. You can check out the National Weather Services website for more information.

3. As Much As Possible, Stay Indoors

Staying indoors during these times is highly recommended by the National Weather Services and the public health offices. This will avoid you from getting in contact with the UV rays outside your home. Always be reminded that the sun is at its strongest between 10:00 am to 3:00 pm. Take this as an opportunity to spend more time with your family and loved ones at home.

4. Wear the Right Clothing and Sunscreen, too

Choosing the right type of clothing will keep you comfortable and cool when you’re outside. You can go for lightweight, light color, and loose-fitting linen instead of wearing dark clothing. Wearing sunglasses can protect your eyes from the scorching heat of the sun, too.

Lastly, don’t forget to put some sunscreen on when going outside 30 minutes before going off. This will help your skin from any UV rays-related diseases and avoid getting your skin burned.

Nothing can be too hard for people who know the dos and don'ts. Stay hydrated!
